Feis Information
A feis (pronounced fesh) is an Irish Dancing competition, usually sponsored by a dance school or other cultural group. Feiseanna (plural of feis) occur on weekends throughout the United States and Canada. A complete listing is available on the school website or on the North American Feis Commission website.
The following are feiseanna local to the Montague School of Irish Dance:
- CNY Feis (April)
- Celtic Fling (June)
- Rochester Feis (July)
- Albany Feis (July)
- Binghamton Feis (August)
- Syracuse Feis (September)
- Watertown Feis (September)
- Finger Lakes Feis (November)
Once you decide to compete at a particular feis, it is best to register right away, as many of them set a maximum number of allowed entries. Each feis publishes a syllabus stating the rules, categories, eligibility, and the fees for each dance. Read the syllabus carefully and register for the appropriate dances and age levels. There is often a fee to change after you’ve registered, so please check with Katie before entering your dancer.
*Montague Irish Dancers may participate in dance competitions starting after the first year of lessons, but there is no obligation to do so.
